Normal Anatomy of the Hip joint
The thigh bone, femur, and the pelvis, acetabulum, join to form the hip joint. The hip joint is a “ball and socket” joint. The “ball” is the head of the femur, or thigh bone, and the “socket” is the cup shaped acetabulum.
Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI)
Femoroacetabular Impingement FAI is a condition resulting from abnormal pressure and friction between the ball and socket of the hip joint resulting in pain and progressive hip dysfunction. When left untreated this can lead to the development of secondary osteoarthritis of the hip.
Hip Dislocation
The hip joint is a ball and socket joint. The “ball” is the head of the femur, or thigh bone, and the “socket” is the cup shaped acetabulum. The joint is surrounded by muscles, ligaments, and tendons that support and hold the bones of the joint in place.
Labral Repair
Hip labrum is labrum lining around the socket of the hip joint. Labrum serves many functions where it acts as shock absorber, lubricates the joint, and distributes the pressure equally.
Hip Arthroscopy
Hip arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to diagnose and treat certain hip conditions through small incisions. For active patients, it may help address issues such as labral tears, impingement, or cartilage damage while supporting a focused recovery plan and return to movement.
